The foundations for accountable agentic systems.
Clade Labs researches and builds the foundations for systems that act under defined authority, use knowledge in context, and preserve evidence of what they do.
The research takes shape in Clade Labs Foundation: shared technology that independently operated companies build into products for their own domains.

Carry the research into a common foundation.
- 03 / ProductsApply it in distinct domains.
Independent companies build and operate their products.
When systems act, their authority and evidence matter.
As software takes on work in clinical programs, hospital operations, case work and enterprise processes, a useful result is only part of the requirement. People also need to know who authorized the work, what context informed it, and how it was performed.
Clade Labs studies these requirements together. The research informs how systems operate within delegated authority, reason over contextual knowledge, and record their execution. Clade Labs Foundation brings that work into reusable technology.
Four questions shape the Foundation.
Products differ in domain, workflow and vocabulary. Underneath, they converge on the same four problems. Clade Labs Foundation addresses them once, so that each product can be built on them rather than around them.
Authority
How permissions and decision boundaries govern execution - what a system is allowed to do, on whose behalf, and where that permission ends.
Knowledge
How systems represent entities, relationships and context, so that work is performed against meaning rather than against undifferentiated records.
Execution
How agents and workflows perform work under defined constraints, with behavior that stays within the limits set for it.
Evidence
How records of execution support inspection and accountability, so that what happened - and who permitted it - can be examined afterward.
Shared foundations. Distinct products.
Each company licenses Clade Labs Foundation and operates its own product on separate infrastructure. Their applications, interfaces and customer relationships are their own.

The next questions for accountable systems.
Research directions for systems that coordinate, work beyond connectivity, and carry their authority across environments.
Collective intelligence within a boundary
Agents coordinate as collectives, combining specialized judgment and sharing what they learn. Knowledge compounds across their work inside explicit boundaries of trust, purpose, and permission.
Execution beyond connectivity
Work persists when connections disappear. Agents retain context, preserve commitments, and continue within local authority. Reconnection brings their work back into a shared record, with differences reconciled and provenance intact.
Authority that travels
Authority accompanies the agent across systems and environments. Each action carries the scope, constraints, and evidence that establish its legitimacy. Permission remains bounded, inspectable, and revocable wherever execution takes place.
Working through the problems the Foundation addresses.
Essays and commentary on authority, semantic context, and the evidence agentic systems leave behind.
Composing a platform instead of writing one
Every regulated product needs the same platform underneath it, and every team builds it again from nothing. Capability as composable units, with languages above them that generate what gets built from them.
April 2026Beyond the governance mirage: what the control plane actually has to do
Kill switches are the wrong mechanism, "own your control plane" means three separate things, and a governance layer inside the same blast radius as the risk is instrumentation rather than sovereignty.
January 2026Why provenance matters more than volume
Volume has become a proxy for credibility. It answers statistical questions and leaves the governance ones untouched - and when lineage is unclear, more data amplifies risk instead of reducing it.
In evolutionary biology, a clade is a group of organisms that share a common ancestor. We use the term to describe systems that evolve from shared foundations - distinct in form, but grounded in the same underlying structure.
